Chemical Exposure Management

Hazardous chemicals of varying toxicity can be found on most industrial sites and the adequate management of these chemicals is necessary to prevent worker ill health. Some chemicals are used as raw materials or additives in the chemical manufacturing and oil & gas industries while in other cases chemicals form the finished products themselves. Short-term exposure to even low concentrations of some chemicals can cause significant health effects and it is important that chemical exposure is controlled effectively.

Chemical exposure monitoring

A large variety of different analytical techniques are utilised by our Industrial Hygiene Consultants to accurately measure worker exposure to hazardous chemicals including gases and vapours, welding fumes and toxic dusts enabling comparison to internationally accepted exposure limits. Chemical risk assessments can then be conducted to determine the effectiveness of current controls and identify the need for further exposure risk reduction measures.

Chemical assessment and management

Many workplaces have a large number of different chemical agents and a robust chemical risk assessment system is necessary to manage the exposure potential during the handling of these materials. Industrial Hygiene Services can provide expert advice and guidance in the development and review of robust task based chemical risk assessments.
