Health Risk Assessment

The first step in the process of ensuring that all health hazards are adequately controlled is to identify the hazards and assess the risk of these hazards causing harm to the workforce potentially exposed. There are two types of health risk assessments that Industrial Hygiene Services offer. These build a profile of the health hazards that exist on site, the worker groups potentially exposed and the risk that ill-health will result from the level of exposure.

Qualitative health risk assessment

The Qualitative health risk assessment process is an initial evaluation of all the potential health hazards in a specific workplace. The evaluation process involves inspection of the workplace and interviews with different worker groups to ensure that all potential health hazards are identified. The assessment of potential worker exposure is based on the judgement of Industrial Hygiene Consultant using the information gathered.

Quantitative health risk assessment

The Quantitative health risk assessment process is a more in-depth evaluation of the potential worker exposure than is possible during a Qualitative assessment. During a Quantitative health risk assessment, internationally recognised analytical measurement techniques are employed to gather accurate exposure data on the different hazards in the workplace. Based on the data gathered, an exposure profile is developed for all worker groups allowing an accurate risk assessment to be made and appropriate controls to be recommended and implemented.
